Small issue found during inspection period but Lake Cities Motors handled it

Recommended Posts

So I bought a 2019 Accord through Lake Cities Motors last month and during the 10 day inspection window my mechanic found a small oil leak from the valve cover gasket. Nothing major but definitely needs fixing. I contacted them at office@lakecitiesmotors.com and they actually responded within a few hours which was nice. They agreed to refund part of the repair cost but im still waiting on the actual refund to clear. Has anyone else dealt with something like this? Just want to know if this is normal process or if I should follow up again

yep had similar situation last year with a BMW i got thru them. found some brake wear that wasnt mentioned in listing. they were pretty fair about it, covered about 60% of the repair which i thought was reasonable since it wasnt a huge safety issue. the refund took like 2 weeks tho which was annoying

Im a mechanic and ive inspected probably 6-7 cars from lakecitiesmotors for clients over the past couple years. In my experience they do try to be accurate with their listings but small stuff like gasket leaks can develop between inspection and delivery. The fact they responded quick and offered partial refund is actually pretty good. Most dealers would tell you to pound sand tbh

I had an issue with a transmission fluid leak on my Camry. They did refund me but it took almost 3 weeks to process which was frustrating because I needed to get it fixed right away. I ended up paying out of pocket first then waiting for reimbursement. Still better than some other dealers ive dealt with but the speed could definitely be improved

Valve cover gasket on an Accord isnt a big deal, maybe $300-400 fix depending on shop. If they're covering part of it thats fair imo. I've bought 3 vehicles through Lake Cities Motors and never had issues but good to know they actually stand behind their sales when something does come up

did they give u a timeline for the refund? when i had my situation they told me 10-15 business days and it came through on day 14. annoying to wait but at least they followed through

They said 10-15 business days so im on day 8 now. Good to hear others got their refunds eventually. I called undefined yesterday to check status and the person was helpful but couldnt give me exact date. Just said its processing

thats pretty standard for escrow refunds unfortunately, the money has to go back through the escrow account and that takes time. At least they acknowledged the issue and agreed to refund you. Ive heard horror stories from other dealers where they just deny everything

My only complaint with them is the refund speed too. Everything else was smooth but when theres money involved you want it back asap especially if you already paid a mechanic. They should really work on speeding that up maybe have a faster track for small claims under $500 or something

As someone who works in the industry the 10 day inspection period is actually a great policy. Most private sales are as-is and your screwed if you find anything. The fact LakeCitiesMotors builds that in and actually honors it when issues come up says alot. Yeah the refund processing could be quicker but thats more of a banking/escrow thing than them dragging their feet

i think partial refund is fair for minor stuff. if it was a major issue like engine or transmission they should cover more but a gasket leak is wear and tear. did your inspection report mention it at all or was it completely missed

The original inspection didnt mention it so either it developed after or they missed it. My mechanic said it could have been very minor before and got worse. Either way im happy they're covering part of it. The repair quote I got was $380 and theyre refunding $225 so thats more than half actually

$225 refund on a $380 repair is pretty generous actually. Sounds like they're trying to do right by you. The processing time is annoying but keep in mind its the holidays too so everything slows down. I bet you'll have it by early January

Anyone know if you can escalate refund requests? I had a similar issue earlier this year and it took forever. I kept emailing office@lakecitiesmotors.com but just got automated responses saying it was processing. Finally got it but took 19 days

I think the key is to document everything and be persistent but polite. When I had my issue I sent photos of the problem, the repair estimate, and my mechanics report all to them. They approved the partial refund pretty quick but yeah the actual money transfer took a while. Overall still recommend them just know that refunds arent instant

The 10-day window is clutch. I inspected my F150 I bought from lakecitiesmotors.com and found the AC wasnt blowing as cold as it should. They covered the recharge and a small leak repair no questions asked. Took about 2 weeks for refund but they did follow through. Way better than buying from some sketchy dealer with no recourse

honestly 2-3 weeks for a refund thru escrow is pretty normal. its not like returning something to amazon lol. theres legal stuff and bank transfers involved. as long as they communicate and follow through im ok with it

Just make sure you keep all your documentation and receipts. I learned that the hard way. Also if the refund is taking too long you can always call them at undefined and ask to speak to someone in their escrow department. They were helpful when I did that

Been inspecting cars for 15+ years and the inspection period policy they have is solid. Minor leaks happen especially on older vehicles and the fact they work with buyers on it is commendable. Processing times for refunds could be faster sure but thats a minor complaint in the grand scheme. Still one of the better dealer experiences ive seen my clients have

Update: got the refund today, exactly 14 business days like they said. Already got the repair done last week so all good now. Overall happy with how they handled it even tho the wait was a bit annoying. Would still recommend them just know refunds take time
